Zoë's Rescue

Hobo's Rescue

A Happy Ending

The Next Step

Two of our fab foster parents, Natalie and Don, had agreed prior to rescue that they would foster Zoë while our team worked with her. Natalie had met Zoë one day while leaving Gateway Cottage and felt a special bond with her that first time. Their family includes a child, two foundation rescue cats and two Old English Sheep Dogs. They knew that the bunch would welcome Zoë with open arms and paws.

Sure enough, Zoë responded to the showering of love bestowed upon her. It wasn't long before son, Elliot, had Zoë's head in his lap and kitten, Katya, was sharing a pillow with Zoë! Canine companions, Digby and Dalton, showed her the ways of the backyard potty area and assured her that they would demonstrate proper etiquette in the dog park! Zoë settled in quite nicely.

Her first trip to Chambers Creek Vet was the next day and she cooperated like a true lady. Then, it was off to the spa for some serious bathing and grooming. Once prettied up, she began showing us that she was able to finally sleep- sleep with her eyes closed for a full night.

"When I first approached Zoë, she wagged her tail.  She was the perfect lady even though she was nervous when bathed. While Zoë was drying, she laid down and slept next to me as I did some T-touch and talked with Natalie for more than an hour. Zoë seemed to be dreaming as her legs and paws were twitching." -Lisa

Zoë has slowly been meeting some of her faithful companions from the lot on which she lived for so many months. Her first visitor was Audrey, her guardian angel (aka the dinner roll with peanut butter lady), who was willing to take action and called us for help.

While Zoë continues to make tremendous progress in a short time, we still must be careful to not push her too much too soon. We let her lead the pace at which she goes and allow her to tell us what is "OK". She has a desire to please which makes her vulnerable in the wrong hands. We are committed to her welfare.

It's been two weeks that Zoë has been in a home with people who love her and care for her. She is a beautiful girl who wears her emotions quite blatantly. As with Hobo, Zoë teaches us that despite all the trauma she has endured, she is open to forgiveness and love. A lesson we should all heed and practice. For those who do not believe that animals have souls we wish for you the opportunity to meet a dog like Zoë.
